SummaryThis course is designed for IPT-UK accredited practitioners who wish to progress to IPT-UK accredited supervisor status. It is a 40 credit course at level 11 SCQF and is an optional course of the IPT pathway. It follows on from the IPT level A and B course that already exist, providing an advanced supervised practice placement, including supervision of supervision, supported by teaching days and supervisor training. It is shares two days of teaching with the IPT level D course allowing individuals to pick components they need for practice from a range of combinations maintaining competitiveness with other IPT training providers. Completion of IPT Level C, and associated coursework, would contribute to a portfolio that could be submitted for IPT-UK accreditation at supervisor status.
Course description IPT Level C is designed for IPT-UK accredited practitioners who wish to progress to IPT-UK accredited supervisor status. It is designed to support practitioners in receiving IPT-UK accredited supervision for two cases (cases 5 and 6 in IPT-UK accreditation), supervision of supervision and an IPT supervisor course Students will attend two days of advanced practice teaching during the course of the year and two days of supervisor training. Students will be provided supervision in dyads with an IPT-UK accredited supervisor. The aim of the dyad supervision is so that the students can receive accredited supervision on their final supervised cases, but also can begin to practice supervising each other, under guidance and supervision.

IPT Level C follows on from the IPT level A and B course that already exist, providing an advanced supervised practice placement, supported by teaching days, supervision of supervision and a two day supervisor training (for which teaching is shared with Level D). Completion of this course, and associated coursework, would contribute to a portfolio that could be submitted for IPT-UK accreditation at supervisor status.

IPT is an evidence-based, safe and effective therapy for depression and related disorders. This course will focus on the development of supervision skills and advanced clinical skills through practice and clinical supervision. Students will develop advanced therapeutic skills specific to Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) through a supervised placement and contact days with the university, supervisor training and supervision of supervision. The course forms part of the MSc in Psychological Therapies and students have a range of options for continuing their studies on completion of this course. Due to the practice-based elements and supervision requirements of this course, the course is delivered over one year.

3. Supervision Log demonstrating that the following has been achieved (pass/fail):
a. Minimum 30 hours direct clinical contact
b. Minimum 2 patients have been engaged in treatment across all three phases (all for a minimum of ten individual weekly sessions with the young person and three additional parent/carer sessions, where they agree to attend or 12-16 session within adult model)
c. Minimum 80% supervision attendance
4. Advanced level competency has been achieved as assessed by supervisor (pass/fail)
5. Supervision competency (including co-marking of audio-tapes) has been achieved as assessed by supervisor (pass/fail)

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Students should be able to deliver advanced level IPT assessment, formulations and interventions, under supervision from an accredited IPT supervisor.
  2. Students will develop knowledge and skills of working with IPT across all four focal areas and the knowledge required to work with a range of clinical presentations.
  3. Students will demonstrate skills in evaluating adherence to the IPT model and knowledge and skills required to proficiently supervise IPT practice
  4. Students will demonstrate skills in communicating effectively and constructively on others application of IPT knowledge and skills within clinical practice, including managing and supporting change in non-adherent practice
  5. Students will demonstrate capacity to reflect on their own supervision and associated IPT supervisor competencies
