Summary | This course will present the mechanics and biomechanical principles underlying tooth movement; the appliance systems used in orthodontics; and the development of the various appliance systems. |
Course description |
The different types of appliance systems will be demonstrated and compared, together with their advantages and disadvantages. The physics and mechanics of appliance systems will form a large proportion of this module. Treatment of patients on the clinics will familarise the student with the practicalities of everyday specialist practice of orthodontics.

- Be able to describe the five basic types of tooth movement and the appliances needed to produce them
- Be fully conversant with the different types of appliances used in orthodontics
