| Summary | This course Drawing for design practice 2 allows you to develop both your hand/eye co-ordination through various drawing exercises and also introduces how to start translating 2D drawings into 3D models or a maquette that forms the basis for design development. These exercises will complement and expand on those covered in Drawing for design practice 1 and allow you to develop further your individuality and personal style. The course will assist your studio projects by introducing to you the selecting and editing process that lays the foundation for design development.
Through a combination of research gathering visits to collections and studio based assignments you will build a personal portfolio providing you with the necessary drawing skills and an understanding of 3D visualization. |
| Course description |
This course Drawing for design practice 2 is a series of weekly set assignments that will give you the opportunity to explore and extend your drawing practice with an emphasis on further development of your own personal style. In parallel to experimenting and learning new techniques of drawing you will be introduced to methods of translating 2D into 3D model or maquette making. Exploring and understanding material properties whilst being able to visualize your drawing research is key to the design process. This course will offer fundamental awareness of the design process alongside useful transferable skills.
The schedule will typically include:
1) Introductory illustrated presentation of contemporary designers and their individual approaches to drawing and designing;
2) Organized visits to research collections within Edinburgh and Glasgow;
3) Drawing methods including material explorations;
4) Model/Maquette making;
5) Group presentation of project work
You are asked to work in sketchbooks, on loose sheet paper, make 3D models, present written notes from the illustrated lectures for the formative assessment and prepare and present your project to your peer group for the summative assessment.

Other requirements | This course is open to ALL STUDENTS and enrolments are managed on a first come first served basis until the course is full. The course will be open to enrolments from Thursday 13th September at 9.30am. Please sign up for the course through your own School (they will advise if this is done your PT, SSO or Teaching Office). We do not currently keep a waiting list. |

Submission 1: mid- semester review week 5
You will be asked to present your work in progress from weeks 1-5 as a group for feedback and feed-forward.
Formative feedback will be provided in writing in relation to all learning outcomes.
Submission 2: Summative review.
You will be asked to present all your work from the course, feedback will be provided in writing and verbally through individual tutorials. The 15 min verbal presentation that you are asked to present to your peer group will be graded at the point of deliver and taken into consideration for your final grade. |
