On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Students will gain an understanding of the historical development of literature within national cultural contexts;
  2. a grasp of the development of theoretical approaches to literature and criticism;
  3. an understanding of the ways in which literature can be explored through associated disciplines such as history, philosophy, and the literatures of other languages
