| Summary | This course offers critical engagements with works by canonical and marginalised photographers in the history of modernist and postmodernist photography, to address a number of distinct but overlapping areas of concern. The course is structured as a series of two-hour seminars, exploring these concerns from foci on individual artists to exhibition curation.

| Course description |
This course will critically engage with works by canonical and marginalised photographers in the history of modernist and postmodernist photography, to address three distinct but overlapping areas of concern: photography and the politics of representation; intersections of photography with other media and artistic practices; transformations of genre and style. Theoretical readings will introduce students to key texts, topics, and concepts which will be explored through attention to specific works and moments in the history of photography. Course elements will also include foci on the curation of photographic exhibitions.
