|Summary||This nursing research practice attachment is a core course for the MN in Clinical Research. The placement allows the student to build on the research processes and procedures acquired in the previous clinical research practice attachment and experience research directly related to the practice of nursing and normally nurse led. This may be from a wide range of settings: hospital based, University based, community based or in the voluntary sector. Students will gain experience from the range of nursing research activities from establishing a research team, developing ideas and writing proposals addressing funding and ethical issues to data collection and analysis, report writing and presentation. Students will be supported at all times by a practice based mentor and allocated a University based supervisor.
Placements may be in the local Health Boards or may be taken in the locality of a collaborating HEI.
The placement runs from Week 17 ¿ 26 in Semester 2 in the form of two days a week, normally Tuesday and Wednesday totalling 150 hours of practice attachment. The placement experience is supported by regular tutorials which may be on line, face to face, University or placement based and organised with specific, identified links with the core course Research Methods A&B, the production of the Dissertation and the precepts of good clinical practice (GCP). The students have a set of specific process objectives to guide the learning experience and meet the aims of the course.

| By the completion of the research practice attachment, the student will have been enabled to:
* Have built on the research processes and procedures acquired in the previous clinical research practice attachment.
* Demonstrate a full understanding of the application of the Competency Framework for Clinical Research Nurses.
* Be critically and well informed about research directly related to the practice of nursing, nurse led and from a wide range of settings.
* Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a wide range of nursing research activities.
* Demonstrate full understanding of the professional and ethical competencies and responsibilities as a nurse researcher in terms of research subject care, for policy and service and the day to day working of a nursing research team.
* Demonstrate the primacy of communication, leadership, teamwork and decision making.
* Demonstrate what is meant by good clinical practice(GCP) in nursing research.
* Formulate their own area of research enquiry against the acquired critical, theoretical and experiential skills to inform their research dissertation work.
* Critically reflect on the dynamic nature and challenges in undertaking research.
* Demonstrate a commitment to personal and continuing professional development.
