SummaryThe MPhys Project aims to help you to identify and cultivate the technical, personal, and presentation skills needed to work successfully in a physics-based research/development environment.
During the project, you work on your own under the supervision of your Supervisor. The function of the Supervisor is initially to define the project and then to give advice as your work proceeds. However, it should be understood that the project must be a reflection of your own work and ideas.

Pre-requisites Co-requisites Students MUST also take: MPhys Project Presentation (PHYS11049)
Prohibited Combinations Students MUST NOT also be taking MPhys Project for Year Abroad (PHYS11050)
Other requirements At least 80 credit points accrued in courses of SCQF Level 9 or 10 drawn from Schedule Q.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. conduct a comprehensive search of the literature relevant to a research topic and to select and summarise the crucial aspects of the relevant literature
  2. organise and complete an extended research project where the results and outcomes are not defined at the beginning
  3. organise, keep and use a comprehensive log book of the work done in the project
  4. write a full report including a concise summary of the relevant literature, the pertinent aspects of the method and a critical discussion of the results and conclusions
  5. work in a research group environment, interacting in a professional manner with research scientists
