Course description This course will provide students with the key skills that are essential for disease systems research. This includes hypothesis development, experimental design and statistical methods used in disease systems. Correlative vs experimental approaches will be compared.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. To develop a research question and hypothesis, an appropriate experimental design to test the hypothesis and plan field collection of samples or measurements
  2. To learn to use statistics used in surveillance; power calculations for surveillance; statistics used in interventions
  3. To demonstrate skills in handling data and selecting the appropriate statistical methods.
  4. To describe and interpret outputs from statistical analysis in relation to the hypothesis and present findings
  5. To discuss the use of Bayesian inference methods in disease systems research
