Course description |
This course is designed to ensure that the students have relevant knowledge in the basic sciences to safe oral surgical practice. It will bring together the anatomy and surgical anatomy, physiology, genetics and cell biology of relevance to oral surgery, mainly in a classroom environment but will include article reviews, case reports, M&M meetings and discussions and hands-on dissection/ prosection.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a thorough and working understanding of applied anatomy of the face, neck and jaws
- Describe the physiology of the stomatognathic system.
- Understand the mechanism normal and abnormal development of the stomatognathic system.
- Understand the relevance of genetics and epigenetics of the stomatognathic system.
- Be able to discuss contemporaneous developments in cell biology relevant to the field of oral surgery
