Summary | A focus on the creative practice of musical composition through exploration into the technique and creative considerations of writing for a specific compositional idiom and notational concerns. The student's own creative work will be developed in individual tutorials. Students will be expected to participate in putting on a public performance of at least one of their works in a class concert. Students are encouraged to make a rigorous exploration of the horizons of their musical experience and interest. |

Pre-requisites | Visiting students should have at least three Music courses at grade B or above in Music Theory (or be predicted to obtain this). We will only consider University/College level courses. All Visiting students should contact the Course Organiser before enrolling on the course. |

Portfolio submission:
- Two original and contrasting compositions of approx. 5 - 7 min. each written for 1 ¿ 20 players, along with a playback in audio file format, to be submitted by end of Semester - worth 80% (the compositions are weighted 50/50 within the 80%).
- A creative diary in written form comprised of written and/or notated material - worth 20%.

Students will receive formative feedback throughout the semester in individual tutorials as well as during group work in lectures. Summative feedback is provided on submitted portfolios. |
