Notes:
Entry requirements:
for French 1A: a pass in French at National 5 (SQA) or GCSE
for French 1B: a pass in French at Higher (SQA), A-level or equivalent
Entrants with SQA qualifications should hold at least a 'B' pass
AND

Level 7 and 8 courses in Schedules A to Q, T and W

Notes:
This excludes English Literature 1.
Level 7 language courses cannot be taken for credits on this degree programme.

Year 2 Academic year: 2018/19, Starting in: August

Notes:
It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that students choose outside courses in first year that follow on into second year, so that there is the possibility of an alternative degree programme at the end of second year.

All courses (including outside subjects) must be passed before embarking on the year abroad, an outside course passed at Resit in August will be acceptable.

Entry into Honours:

(1) students must pass courses to the required value of 240 credits in the first two years;
(2) students must achieve 50% or more at first attempt in all required second-year courses for their registered degree;
(3) students must achieve at least 50% overall in the relevant second-year language course(s), including at least 50% in the language component of that course.

Notes:
Politics and Institutions of Contemporary France is only available to students who have passed French 1A or French 1B.
Scandinavian Languages 2 is available to students who have taken a Scandinavian Studies language in year one.
For LEL2 courses students must have passed: Linguistics and English Language 1 or A Brief Introduction to Language.
OR

Level 7 and 8 courses in Schedules A to Q, T and W

Notes:
Level 7 language courses cannot be taken for credits on this degree programme.

Year 3 Academic year: 2018/19, Starting in: August

Notes:
During 3rd year: At least 30 weeks must be spent in the relevant country and prescribed work completed in Scottish Literature and the relevant language in an approved establishment.

One unit of assessment is allocated to every 20 credits and constitutes one 20-credit paper. The following are the twelve 20-credit papers on which the classification of the degree is based.

1. French Language Paper 1 (10 credits from Language acquisition and 10 from Y4 LP1 course)
2. French Language Paper 2 (10 credits from Language acquisition and 10 from Y4 LP2 course)
3. Oral for French (taught and assessed in Y4)
4. French Online Language Course for Year Abroad Students
5. Scottish Literature YA work
6. Scottish Literature YA work (same mark as 5)
7. MEL Year Abroad work OR MEL Dissertation Preparation (see 8)
8. MEL Long Essay OR MEL Dissertation Completion (Dissertation papers 7 & 8 are a combined grade 10% from preparation and 90% from final dissertation preparation. Credits cannot be awarded for Dissertation preparation unless the full 2 year course is completed.)

(Papers that for the purposes of degree classification acquire a weighting of 40 credits are, therefore, listed twice.)

2. French 4 Honours Paper 1.

5. Long Essay for Scottish Literature.

7. MEL Dissertation Preparation (same mark as 8) OR MEL Year Abroad Assessment
