Final Assessment:
One unit of assessment is allocated to every 20 credits and constitutes one 20-credit paper. The following are the twelve 20-credit papers on which the classification of the degree is based. (Papers that for the purpose of degree classification acquire weighting of 40 credits are, therefore, listed twice.)
1. Celtic Dissertation (Part 1) or Scottish Literature Dissertation
2. Celtic Dissertation (Part 2) or Scottish Literature Dissertation
3. to 6. Celtic Honours option courses
7. to 10. Scottish Literature Honours option courses
11. to 12. Celtic or Scottish Literature Honours option courses
There are no compulsory courses in this year of this programme.
Honours degrees must include 40 credits of dissertation work in one or the other of the subjects. A 20 credit unit towards the dissertation will be taken in third year, and a 20 credit completion unit in fourth year. Students who have not taken Gaelic language to Year 2 must select their Celtic Honours courses from the list of medieval options.

If the dissertation is taken in Celtic, a 20-credit unit towards the dissertation will be taken in third year, and a 20-credit completion unit in fourth year. Students opting for a Celtic dissertation will therefore be required to take a 20-credit unit towards their dissertation in third year together with option courses in Celtic totalling 40 credits, followed by a 20-credit completion unit in fourth year together with honours options in Celtic totalling 60 credits.
