Entry into Honours:
(1) students must pass courses to the required value of 240 credits in the first two years;
(2) students must achieve 50% or more at first attempt in all required second-year courses for their registered degree; if Latin or Greek is chosen, an average mark of 50% or above in Greek 2A and Greek 2B combined, or Latin 2A and Latin 2B combined is required, achieved no later than June of the second year
(3) students must achieve at least 50% overall in the relevant second-year language course(s), including at least 50% in the language component of that course.
(4) All courses (including outside subjects) must be passed before embarking on the year abroad, an outside course passed at Resit in August will be acceptable.

Politics and Institutions of Contemporary France is only available to students who have passed French 1A or French 1B.
Scandinavian Languages 2 is available to students who have taken a Scandinavian Studies language in year one.

One unit of assessment is allocated to every 20 credits and constitutes one 20-credit paper. The following are the twelve 20-credit papers on which the classification of the degree is based.

1. French Language Paper 1 (10 credits from Language acquisition and 10 from Y4 LP1 course)
2. French Language Paper 2 (10 credits from Language acquisition and 10 from Y4 LP2 course)
3. Oral for French (taught and assessed in Y4)
4. French Online Language Course for Year Abroad Students
5. Classics YA work
6. Classics YA work
7. Classics Dissertation Preparation (same mark as 8) OR MEL Year Abroad work OR MEL Dissertation Preparation (see 8)
8. Classics Dissertation Completion, MEL Long Essay OR MEL Dissertation Completion (Papers 7 & 8 are a combined grade 10% from preparation and 90% from final dissertation preparation. Credits cannot be awarded for Dissertation preparation unless the full 2 year course is completed.)

5. Year Abroad Work for degrees in Modern Languages & Classics.

7. Dissertation Preparation (same mark as 8) OR MEL Year Abroad Assessment.
