Year 2 Academic year: 2018/19, Starting in: August

Notes:
Entry into Honours:
(1) students must pass courses to the required value of 240 credits in the first two years;
(2) students must achieve 50% or more at first attempt in all required second-year courses for their registered degree;
(3 )students must achieve at least 50% overall in the relevant second-year language course(s), including at least 50% in the language component of that course.
(4) All courses (including outside subjects) must be passed before embarking on the year abroad, an outside course passed at Resit in August will be acceptable.

Notes:
Politics and Institutions of Contemporary France is only available to students who have passed French 1A or French 1B.
Scandinavian Languages 2 is available to students who have taken a Scandinavian Studies language in year one.
For LEL2 courses students must have passed: Linguistics and English Language 1 or A Brief Introduction to Language.

Notes:
At least 30 weeks of approved residence in the relevant countries. The minimum period of residence in the country of either of the languages will be eight consecutive weeks.

One unit of assessment is allocated to every 20 credits and constitutes one 20-credit paper. The following are the twelve 20-credit papers on which the classification of the degree is based.

1. Russian Language Paper 1 (10 credits from Language acquisition and 10 from Y4 LP1 course)
2. Scandinavian Language Paper 1 (10 credits from Language acquisition and 10 from Y4 LP1 course)
3. Oral for Russian (taught and assessed in Y4)
4. Oral for Scandinavian (taught and assessed in Y4)
5. Russian Online Language Course for Year Abroad Students
6. Scandinavian Online Language Course for Year Abroad Students
7. MEL Year Abroad Work (ECTS ELCC10002 or MEL Dissertation Preparation - see 8)
8. MEL Long Essay OR MEL Dissertation Completion (Papers 7 & 8 are a combined grade 10% from preparation and 90% from final dissertation; credits cannot be awarded for Dissertation preparation unless the full 2 year course is completed)

10. Russian Hons option 2
11. Scandinavian Hons option 1

One unit of assessment is allocated to every 20 credits and constitutes one 20-credit paper. The following are the twelve 20-credit papers on which the classification of the degree is based. (Papers that for the purposes of degree classification acquire a weighting of 40 credits are, therefore, listed twice.)
1. Russian Studies 4 Honours Language Paper 1.
2. Russian Studies 4 Honours Language Paper 1.
3. Scandinavian Studies 4 Honours Language Paper 1.
4. Scandinavian Studies 4 Honours Language Paper 1.
5. Oral for Russian.
6. Oral for Scandinavian Studies.
7. MEL Dissertation Preparation (same mark as 8) or Socrates Marks or Year Abroad Assessment.
8. MEL Dissertation Completion or MEL Long Essay.
9. Honours course option in Russian Studies.
