| Summary | This course is for post-beginners with some knowledge of Japanese language or students who successfully completed Foundation Japanese Language 2. It is not suitable for absolute beginners or students with knowledge of Japanese at Highers/GCSE or above.
All students take all elements of assessment including the examination.
This course runs both in semester 1 and semester 2. |
| Course description |
The following list is a description of the contents of the course. Along with each topic and function, relevant vocabulary, grammatical and textual structures, and culture notes will be introduced.
-Travel experience in detail such as travel times, lengths of stay etc.
-Asking permission to do something, granting or refusing permission
-Forbidding someone from doing something
-Asking someone not to do something
-What you are doing now and whether you have finished an activity
-Talking about yourself or someone in detail such as where you live, where you work etc.
-Asking where something you are looking for

-Referring to indefinite places, things, or people
-Making comparisons
-Asking for information, suggestions or advice

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Speaking and listening: Communicate short messages on predictable, everyday topics that affect them directly. Students will be able to express their thoughts and comment on things using isolated words and phrases that have been encountered, memorized, and recalled.
- Reading and writing: Read and write a simple text with limited number of kanji. Students will have basic command of 38 kanji in total and will be able to read and write a simple paragraph of text on a familiar topic with a few details of comparison and description.
- Understanding cultural diversity: Understand aspects of Japanese culture such as traditional arts, performing arts, work environment, events, and seasons.
- Computer and IT skills: Use emails, Blackboard Learn virtual learning environment and other tools in order to communicate with classmates and teaching staffs. Students will become familiar with the use of online language learning resources to enhance their self-study.
- Personal development: Develop confidence in language learning, understanding and responding to others in appropriate situations. Students will learn to work individually as well as in pairs or small groups.

LLC students may only take this course if it is over and above their full credit load, as a non credit bearing course. Visiting Students may only take this course for credits.
Please note that auditing this course is not allowed. You must be enrolled as CE (Class and Assessment including centrally arranged exam). |
