SummaryThe 15,000-word dissertation is a piece of independent research, conducted and written over the spring and summer.
Course description The dissertation may consist of an extended exercise in practical translation with commentary, a critical evaluation of an existing translation or translations, an exploration of a topic in Translation Studies, or any meaningful combination of these. The dissertation will be 15,000 words in length (excluding the bibliography).

The dissertation topic must be approved by the course organizer for Research in Translation Studies.

In order to proceed to dissertation students must be awarded
- an overall pass of 50% or above at interim assessment
- 50% for the research proposal assignment as part of Research in Translation Studies assessment

Candidates who gain between 40% and 49% at interim assessment will be awarded the Diploma.

Students will receive regular supervision and will be expected to liaise regularly with their supervisor and submit material for comment at agreed times.

Feedback Before the deadline in August the supervisor may read parts of the dissertation and comment on them, if they feel that this kind of additional support is needed, but supervisors will not read your final draft. For those doing a translation and commentary, please note that you can discuss your translation strategies with your supervisors but they cannot read your translation, only parts of your commentary if need be.
