| Course description |
Understanding dental anxiety and behaviour management is essential in Paediatric Dentistry. This course aims to teach the student how to recognise and catagorise dental anxiety in a way that leads to the best behaviour management modality for each individual patient. Students are introduced to the national guidelines for management of anxiety with both pharmacological and non-pharmacological techniques.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Discuss the aetiology, prevalence and assessment of dental anxiety
- Discuss the non-pharmacological behaviour management techniques used in the United Kingdom (UK)
- Describe the use of local anaesthesia and procedural pain management in paediatric dentistry
- Discuss conscious sedation techniques used in the UK, including inhalation sedation, intravenous sedation and transmucosal sedation
- Discuss the indications, contraindications and decision making processes involved in referring children for treatment under General Anaesthesia
