| Summary | This course will investigate a range of drawing techniques, skills, and exploration in relation to three-dimensional spaces. Through a series of theoretical lectures, practical workshops and field visits, students will learn skills, practise applying them, and experiment in a range of media, in order to respond to real spaces within urban environments through freehand drawing. |
| Course description |
Looking at a variety of existing spaces, and drawing them in different styles, including perspective, scale and detail, students will be taught a range of key three-dimensional hand-drawing skills, to allow them to express their ideas in a professional manner.
Lectures will provide key points for focus and discussion, exploring themes of drawing theory, history of drawing, and diverse drawing styles. These theoretical lectures will accompany a series of weekly seminars, visits and workshops, where students will test out the various styles and themes discussed.
Each student will develop their own sketchbook throughout the course, charting the progression of their own drawing style and practice. Based on a given theme, students will then be asked to develop an individual response to the former in sketchbook form, which will act as a conduit for the exploration of new lines of enquiry.

Other requirements | This course is open to ALL STUDENTS and enrolments are managed on a first come first served basis until the course is full. The course will be open to enrolments from Wednesday 11th September at 11.00 am. Please sign up for the course through your own School (they will advise if this is done via your PT, SSO or Teaching Office). We do not currently keep a waiting list. |

Formative feedback and Assessment:
Group presentations, tutorials and crits will include verbal feedback from peers and staff on a weekly basis.
In week 6 students will submit a self-evaluation form, and be given verbal formative feedback on their work to date.
Summative Feedback and Assessment:
At the end of the course students will submit a final edited portfolio of work and a self-evaluation form, and be given written feedback and grades on their work submitted. |

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:

- Apply a range of drawing-based techniques and responses to the representation of three-dimensional spaces.
- Communicate an individual creative response to a topic through three-dimensional drawing in a structured professional sketchbook format.
