| Summary | This course will challenge the students to develop a project brief within a complex and/or multi-functional space/site or series of spaces. Throughout the design process students will be required to rigorously test out proposals and reflect critically on their decision making process. |
| Course description |
The course will focus on an historic site and students will be required to carry out detailed research and analysis into past and present use to provide a clear rationale in consideration of a suitable new function
Group work will allow in-depth site survey, location analysis and demographic studies (where applicable), to provide a shared resource for the duration of the project. Including data, site model and existing sets of drawings.
Students will then individually decide on a direction to support the brief, to determine an appropriate function for the space.
Students will learn how to demonstrate competence in large-scale planning, spatial layout, and (vertical) circulation, making connections in and between spaces inside and out.
They will deliver a comprehensive package of work, to include concept sketches and evidence design process. Final proposals will include a detailed set of technical drawings, rendered visuals, & models, with a strong focus on section and three-dimensional spatial understanding.

| Additional Costs | Basic model making materials (cardboard, glue etc.) and general printing for interim and final submissions, model making materials for sketch and final scale models as required - approx. £45 (note: this may not cover all students own generated printing/model making during design stage). |

Formative feedback and Assessment:
Group presentations, tutorials and crits will include verbal feedback from peers and staff on a weekly basis.
In week 7 students will submit a self-evaluation form, and be given written formative feedback on their work to date.
Summative Feedback and Assessment:
At the end of the course students will submit a final edited portfolio of work and a self-evaluation form, and be given written feedback and grades on their work submitted.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Evaluate and respond to a body of research, drawing on a wide range of sources to formulate appropriate design responses.
- Demonstrate a critical awareness of three-dimensional design, through structured and transparent processes and methodologies, which begin to position your own practice.
- Realise Interior Design project solutions in drawn and model form, using a range of techniques and advanced skills.
