|Summary||In this course, students will source and analyse appropriate research material from the broader external context of product design, to inform the writing of a study proposal, other appropriate complementary documentation, and a professional record of their experience which will enable them to plan and develop a personal direction for their practice.
Specifically, the aims of this course are:
To enable the student to identify, evaluate and reflect upon an appropriate range of professional contexts, including a period of personal engagement
To enable the student to develop a coherent plan of study which demonstrates an emerging understanding of personal direction, as well as a range of reflective material and documentation showing consolidation of personal direction
To develop the students' abilities in critical analysis, project management, and reflective appraisal

||Formative assessment is carried out at the mid-point of the semester in weeks 5-6. There is continual formative feedback and feed forward throughout the session through group and individual tutorials and peer group work.
Assessment is by submission of portfolio of project work at the end of the course. At the end of Semester 2 students will be given summative feedback; this is done individually.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- EVALUATE: demonstrate a recognition of the philosophical and professional context for the discipline by recording, documenting and critically evaluating personal experiences within professional practices.
