SummaryThis course is ONLY for those students taking Portuguese as a named part of an honours degree and it aims at developing and consolidating advanced language skills.
Course description In this course, students will be familiar with a variety of registers and complex grammatical structures of Portuguese language. Teaching will be based on a selection of course materials raging from literary to journalistic with thematic emphasis on current events relating to the Portuguese-Speaking world. Students should prepare the materials provided in advance of each class. They will be introduced to advanced comprehension, summary writing, translation and composition.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate confidence and accuracy of expression in written Portuguese Language.
  2. Use a range of complex structures and idiomatic expressions
  3. Analyse written Portuguese through access to and close reading of a selection of materials in a range of registers.
  4. Organise and present ideas within the framework of a structured and reasoned argument.
  5. Develop critical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team.
