| Summary | This course will discuss how maternal and child health services can be effectively managed and monitored in a primary care setting. The teaching will build on and incorporate knowledge of principles and practice of family medicine, evidence based medicine, critical thinking and reflection taught in the first year of the programme. |

Students will be given formative feedback throughout the course on the discussion boards. Feedback on summative assessments will be topic-specific but also cover generic skills, such as academic writing, critical thinking, which will be useful for future courses. |

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a critical awareness of the current international, national and local strategies to improve maternal and child health.
- Apply a range of principles and professional skills of the family doctor to the assessment, care and management of maternal and child health presentations.
- Develop original and creative responses to maternal and child health issues within their own family practice.
