SummaryThis 10-credit course aims to ensure that the student will have a good understanding of the principles and practice of clinical radiology.
Course description Student will gain understanding about the physical properties and risk of x-rays, and discuss the benefits and disadvantages of the various modalities and techniques used in medical imaging. They will gain experience in the interpretation of clinical radiology images through the use of clinical case scenarios, focussing on conditions encountered in the acute and general medical setting.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the principles and various techniques involved in imaging patients in a modern healthcare environment, and interpret x-ray images to diagnose the common conditions encountered in acute/ general medicine
  2. Appraise the physical principles of x-rays and the associated risks
  3. Evaluate the main imaging modalities used in modern healthcare and the limitations of each
  4. Interpret images from plain x-rays, CT scanning and MRI in order to diagnose some common clinical conditions encountered in the general medical setting
  5. Practise in a wide and often unpredictable variety of professional level contexts (working with clinicians/basic scientists/allied health professionals)
