On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. outline the history of Islamic mysticism.
  2. explain key mystical concepts, controversies and debates, and their broader religious and intellectual contexts.
  3. understand and explain Islamic mysticism's social and literary manifestations.
  4. critically examine and interpret historical materials.
  5. read and understand various types of Sufi texts in translation.
