| Summary | This course covers Linear and Functional Analysis. As such it provides a solid and broad foundation to the more pure aspects of mathematical analysis and places many of the techniques of applied analysis on a firm footing. |  
| Course description | The aim is to learn new things to get a broad education in the area as a basis for a wide range of PhD projects and for post-PhD employment. Learning Outcomes 
| On completion of this course, the student will be able to: 
        Thoroughly understand the main properties of Banach and Hilbert spaces and linear operators acting on them.Thoroughly understand the Hahn-Banach theorem, Baire's theorem and its consequences.Demonstrate familiarity with weak topologies, Krein-Milman theorem.Thoroughly understand the concepts and tools developed in the spectral theory of compact operators and C* algebras. |
