SummaryThis course aims to demonstrate competence in the clinical care of the child and adolescent patient with a range of dental conditions.
Course description The student will be required to present four fully-documented cases to demonstrate competency in the management of four child patients with the following treatment needs;
Case One: comprehensive care of a child in the primary, mixed or permanent dentition;
Case Two: management of a child patient who has suffered dento-alveolar trauma;
Case Three: management of a child patient with a developmental anomaly or one that covers the paediatric-orthodontic interface;
Case Four: management of a child patient with a medical condition.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Display clinical competence for an appropriate range of treatment techniques and display an appreciation of and exhibit an evidence based clinical practice
  2. Describe the scientific principles of critical evaluation and analytical thinking for a range of clinical problems
  3. Consider, appraise and evaluate the relative benefits of different modalities of dental treatment appropriate to the discipline
  4. Determine evidence based best practice according to individual patient need and the ability to evaluate the efficacy of treatments
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical and clinical responsibilities towards patient and carer groups
