SummaryThis course covers aspects of cell biology relevant to surgery, including neoplasia, microbiology, immunology and haematology. The specialties of breast, endocrine and plastic surgery are also explored.
Course description Through self-directed learning, online content will deliver key concepts relating to cell biology and breast, endocrine and plastic surgery. Students will be required to work through weekly online activities, including discussion boards, non-assessed helpdesks and formative MCQ quizzes.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Apply a range of specialised research in cell biology to the evaluation of causes and treatments of common surgical conditions
  2. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the relevant basic scientific principles for surgical conditions relating to Breast, Endocrine and Plastic Surgery
  3. Evaluate diagnostic practice in breast disease and management of benign, malignant, and infective breast conditions
  4. Practise in a wide and often unpredictable variety of professional level contexts (working with clinicians/basic scientists/allied health professionals)
  5. Deal with complex ethical and professional issues
