SummaryThe course comprises a major research project in one of the following areas of zoology: parasite biology, animal behaviour, evolution, evolutionary ecology and systematics. A wide range of projects is offered and students are also encouraged to submit their own proposals. Projects are allocated early in Semester 1 with project planning and training, and limited practical work taking place in semester 1; The majority of practical work takes place in Semester 2 (January) and proceeds until thesis hand-in (late April). The project also involves a significant taught training element covering key research skills such as study design, scientific presentation, scientific writing and data analysis and interpretation

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Plan a set of observations or experiments working towards a definite objective and become technically proficient at carrying out the necessary work.
  2. Analyse the results in an appropriate manner.
  3. Write up the results clearly and show that you can relate your work to that of others.
  4. Present your work in the form of short talks and discussion in the Project Group.
  5. Present your work in the form of the written Project Thesis.
