SummaryTurkish 2a builds on the foundations laid in Turkish 1a and Turkish 1b. It provides further development of linguistic skills in the modern language, including expanding the students' knowledge of grammatical structures and regular practice of spoken Turkish.
Course description Turkish 2a aims to teach the structure of the Turkish language through Istanbul B1 course book (first 3 units). These units (1-3) cover adverbial clauses, the past continuous tense, and adverbial phrases, gerunds and infinitives, indirect speech, modal verbs (obligation and necessity) in the present and past forms.

The course will consist of 4 Seminar/Tutorial hours of instruction per week. Every week, 3 hours will be devoted to grammar and reading skills while 1 will be devoted to oral practice.

Feedback For the mid term tests, students will be given the chance to review their answer sheets/marks and the course organiser will go through all the questions with students in class. For the oral exams, detailed feedback will be provided upon request.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. demonstrate lower intermediate knowledge of Turkish grammar;
  2. talk and write about a range of everyday topics;
  3. read and understand simple literary texts in modern Turkish;
  4. recognize and use the core vocabulary of Turkish news bulletins;
  5. translate lower intermediate level texts from Turkish into English and vice versa.
