| Summary | The Geophysics Professional Placement L11 course will be taken together with the Geophysics Professional Placement L10 course in the 4th year of the integrated Master in Earth Physics programme as the 4th year of the integrated Masters programme. |
| Course description |
Students will spend 12 months working on a project related to the degree programme whilst employed by an approved and appropriate research company/institute (in the UK or abroad). Students are recruited by companies on a competitive basis and may choose which positions they would like to apply for based on their interests and preferred geographical location. The course provides opportunities to broaden horizons and gain valuable insight into the professional application of their chosen degree programme this enhancing future career paths. Assessment consists of marks for a written report and oral examination of the project, and aspects of the performance on the placement.

B1: WRITTEN PLACEMENT REPORT (Part B: 40%, assessed by IS+AS)
-This is due to be submitted within in the final month of the placement and submitted via Turnitin.
-20,000 words maximum. Should be fully referenced, references not included in wordcount.
-With the IS you will identify a piece of work that can be written up as a research project that you undertook on the placement.
-The interpretation of research in this context is broad but it should involve the application of skills you developed on your geophysics degree which could include numeracy and computational skills.
-Within the first couple of months, please discuss this with your AS to check it is suitable.
-We can meet any needs of confidentiality required by the Industry Partner this does not need to be a public piece of work.
-Submit to turnitin within the last month of the placement, at least one week prior to the oral presentation.
B2: ORAL PRESENTAION OF PROJECT (Part B: 10%, assessed by IS+AS)
- This is due to take place within the final month of the placement, once the written report is submitted.
- You will present your project in a 20-minute presentation with 15 minutes of questions on the presentation and report.
- This can be done either remotely using Microsoft Teams or face-to-face.
- This assessment can be done to meet the confidentiality required by the Industry Partner.
Key dates:
- Project Report: Within the last two months of the placement and one week prior to the Oral Presentation
- Oral Presentation: Within the final month of the palcement

- Feedback on the Project Report will be on Turnitin and summaried in the Assessment Form within 2 weeks of the completion of the Oral Presentation.
- Feedback on the Oral Presentation will be summaried in the Assessment Form within 2 weeks of the presentation.
- Feedback on your Blog will be posed as comments on the Blog during the placement.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
