|Summary||Assessment of oral language skills
This course consists of weekly classes where the spoken skills in the target language will be developed. In the course, students will perfect their grammatical correctness, advance their range of vocabulary, learn to summarise and discuss topics within a variety of subjects, and they will learn to understand the use of style and register in spoken Danish. Teaching of this course is integrated alongside teaching for Scandinavian Studies Language Paper 1.
The method of instruction is synchronous small-group language teaching aiming at oral proficiency, making use of video material and articles from Danish newspapers and magazines available on the Internet. Each week, students are also expected to prepare for the synchronous sessions by completing the asynchronous preparation outlined in that week┐s instructions, individually and in groups, and to keep their knowledge of Danish current affairs up-to-date.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a broad palette of Danish vocabulary with a high degree of grammatical accuracy in fluent and spontaneous discussion, even on abstract, complex and unfamiliar topics, supported by a sophisticated understanding of Danish culture.
- Engage successfully with recorded and live speech on concrete and abstract topics, even when not clearly structured or explicitly expressed, as well as long and complex factual and literary texts, with figurative or specialised language.
- Produce clear, complex presentations, which develop arguments both critically and systematically with the use of relevant emphases, subsidiary points, and examples.
- Demonstrate finely honed communication, presentation and interaction skills across a wide range of media and circumstances, both formal and informal, for lay and specialised audiences.
- Consistently exercise autonomy and initiative, taking significant responsibility for learning by identifying strengths and weaknesses in oral proficiency and communication skills, in conjunction with tutor and peer feedback.
