|Summary||This course considers the works of several medieval authors writing in Persian.
The course IMES10076, Of Wine, Love and Loss: Reading Iran through Classical Persian Literature, is a version of this course studying the texts in English translation.
The course IMES11077, Of Wine, Love and Loss: Reading Iran through Classical Persian Literature (PG Version), is a version of this course studying the texts in English translation for Postgraduate students.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Gain an overview of the history and development of classical Persian literature.
- Develop an understanding of the social and historical developments within Iran.
- Evaluate primary and secondary materials relating to the study of Persian literature.
- Engage with classical Persian poetry and prose in its primary source.
- Develop an understanding of the rhetorical devices employed in classical Persian litearure
