| Summary | This course examines EU substantive law, building on the constitutional and institutional foundations established in EU Law Honours I: Foundations. It addresses, in particular, EU internal market and free movement law, EU citizenship, how EU law intersects with sensitive areas of national law (for example, through the operation of the European Arrest Warrant), how the EU negotiates external trade agreements, and the legal boundaries around EU policymaking in non-economic areas such as social protection. The legal implications of Brexit will be considered throughout the course where relevant. |

EU free movement law
The legal dimensions of EU citizenship
EU substantive law its wider policy context
EU substantive law intersecting with national law
EU substantive law intersecting with the wider world
The legal implications of Brexit.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Students will acquire in-depth knowledge of EU substantive law, and engage with broader perspectives on EU legal development and the interconnected system of EU law more generally.
- Students will apply knowledge, skills and understanding in practical contexts related to EU substantive law and to the system of EU law more generally, critically analysing legal doctrines and placing them in a wider context. Students will develop skills in tracking developments that are still evolving and to discern appropriate and useful resources within the context of fast-paced legal change.
- Students will obtain, organise and use conceptual, factual, and/or hypothetical information in problem-solving.
- Students will enhance written communication skills, with a strong focus on the practical application of EU substantive law.
- Students will exercise initiative and independence in carrying out defined activities related to EU substantive law. Students will also improve their understanding of the complex relations between the EU and other legal orders.
