Summary | This course offers an overview of the applications and uses of polymeric and composite materials putting the subject in the context of the needs and advancements of society, industry and national well-being. It is primarily focused on their (thermal, rheological, mechanical) properties, processing and characterisation. |
Course description |
On completion of the Course, students should be able to:
1. Explain methods for determining the microstructure and molecular weight of polymers and describe the significance of polymer solubility, melting point and glass transition temperature;
2. Explain the relationship between polymer properties (thermal, rheological, mechanical), and polymer microstructure and molecular weight; Relate polymer properties to their processing and uses;
3. Explain the structure of composite materials and determine their mechanical properties
