| Summary | Preparation towards Scottish Studies Dissertation Part B undertaken in Year 4. Students will work with a supervisor to establish and define their topic of interest in relation to any relevant aspect of Scottish Studies as defined within the MA (Hons) in Scottish Studies degree programme (UTSCOTS). This will include research exercises in primary and secondary sources to establish an appropriate methodology and bibliography; reading and reporting on the central primary and secondary texts; and the definition of the research questions and issues posed by the material. |
| Course description |
The course offers the opportunity to undertake an in-depth research project on a subject that holds special interest to the student, on a topic associated with one or more of the Level 10 taught courses offered on the MA (Hons) Scottish Studies programme. The topic must be approved by the course organiser who will appoint an appropriate supervisor. The course will help to develop core research skills relating to initial planning, development of a research proposal, methodological design and bibliographic engagement and review. This will prepare the student for the partner course, Scottish Studies Dissertation Part B, to be taken in the final year of study.
