Course description |
The course will focus on the interpretation of data from various sources but the majority will concentrate on Transfusion Science practice. This course is only suitable for students who are currently employed within or have regular access to a Transfusion Science laboratory.
This schedule will consist of a one week teaching block on campus and the remaining part of the course will consist of work based learning evidenced via a portfolio.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Evaluate results commonly encountered in blood transfusion laboratories. Design investigations to examine complex serological reactions, including recommendations for resolving unexpected anomalies, in patient testing.
- Interpret data and convert into knowledge for use in the clinical context of individual and groups of patients and donors.
- Outline and analyse variants associated with the ABO and Rh blood group systems. Determine and evaluate the implications for patients
- Think independently and demonstrate creativity in the identification of problems and their solutions.
- Select and apply appropriate analysis or assessment techniques and tools.
