Summary | The course enables students to develop an appreciation of the nature clinical audit or service evaluation and the scientific methods required to carry them out. The course therefore complements the taught aspects of the programme by encouraging students to think independently, apply their learning in previous courses and reflect on their own practice. |
Course description |
The course involves a research assignment conducted by the student in an approved laboratory (usually their own place of work). The course will permit the student to study in depth an aspect of his/her specialist interest which has a particular professional relevance. The audit or service evaluation is funded by the student¿s employer. The topic is negotiated by the student with the university and employing laboratory staff. Throughout the course the student will be expected to keep a reflective diary recording the challenges they have encountered, the solutions created and the learning obtained from the experience. By the end of the course the student will have undertaken an extensive Literature review or advanced critical analysis and produced either an audit report or service evaluation report.
