Summary | The objective of this course is to promote a scientific, evidence based approach to veterinary oncology, and to help students develop both practical and theoretical skills in the field. The student is expected to build on the foundation skills developed when undertaking the A and B modules/courses, and to demonstrate progression towards advanced practitioner skills. The candidate will be able to evaluate their own standards of practice and develop strategies for continuous improvement in the future. |
Course description |
This assessment-only course forms part of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (Veterinary Oncology). Students wishing to achieve this certificate will need to complete the following modules: A-FAVP.1 Foundations in Advanced Veterinary Practice, B-PAP.2, C-Onc.1 and C-Onc.3, plus one other B or C module. Upon completion of all the necessary modules, a further synoptic assessment will be required.
This course focuses on cancer biology and medical therapy for cancer. The candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the relevance and application of the basic science and biology of oncology and how this underpins medical therapy. This course/module is intended to cover the basic science of cancer biology with application to clinical veterinary oncology and with comparative aspects to human medicine. The candidate should explore how this biology underpins therapeutics. Developing on this knowledge, candidates will learn the basis and application of cancer therapeutics, and treatment of haematopoietic tumours.

10-15 short-answer questions (SAQs)

All assignments will be marked and feedback provided within a period of 15 working days following submission (excluding holidays periods whereby the University of closed, e.g. over the Christmas period).
Opportunities for informal feedback arise through personal tutor and live sessions as well as through email discussions. Formal feedback and feedforward will be provided only on coursework assignments.
