Jump to: Year 1, Year 2

Year 1 Academic year: 2020/21, Starting in: September

Notes:
Students on the MSc in GIS take 120 credits of compulsory courses and 60 credits of option courses. Students must take 180 credits in total.

In order to balance the workload over two years, students are permitted to complete more than 60 credits in the first year. Not all core courses must be taken in Semester 1 of Year 1. You must discuss the selection and number of courses taken in Year 1 and Year 2 with the Programme Director during Welcome Week.

**For academic year 2020-21, the School of GeoSciences will not be undertaking field courses with international destinations.
All UK field destinations will be vetted for suitability according to risk to students, staff, and host communities. This is to ensure that we protect the safety of our students, staff and the host communities. Alternatives will be provided to ensure key learning outcomes can still be met in any eventuality of not being able to run a physical field experience.
We currently do not know if we can run residential field courses on the UK mainland in academic year 2020-21. We will follow advice from the University and the Scottish and UK Governments, and this will clearly develop over the next 6-12 months. Field courses which involve local day trips may be more feasible if appropriate social distancing measures can be implemented.
In all eventualities, alternatives will be provided that enable you to meet the learning outcomes of all courses affected**
