SummaryThis course asks you to research and interrogate the work you will undertake in the Advanced Sustainable Design Project. It asks you to test your design proposals using a rigorous methodology of your devising and to consider how this testing procedure can be used to amend and refine the design in the light of your research findings, as an integrated process.


The course in many ways reflects a tension between creativity found in architectural design process and the predicted measurable performance of your proposal. Advanced Sustainable Design Elaboration is an opportunity for you to test your design propositions to key sustainable criteria.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Gain skill in the selection of analysis techniques for use in the elaboration and testing of building design proposals.
  2. Acquire knowledge and ability in formulating relevant strategies to test and assess a building design proposal.
  3. Have an understanding in the interpretation of an assessment of a building design and proposals to refine and improve the design.
  4. Gain skills in the production of a report that is clear, incisive and informative in the use of both text and graphical formats.
