Summary | This course is suitable for complete beginners and aims to equip students with a very basic grounding in written and spoken Chinese.This course is not suitable for students with previous knowledge of Chinese. This course is not available to native or near-native speakers of Chinese. If in doubt, contact the Course Organiser.
This course runs in both semester 1 and semester 2.
On successful completion of this course students will have the option of taking Introductory Chinese Language 2 (ASST07006 in Semester 2), which follows on from Introductory Chinese Language.
All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination. Auditing (Class Only) is not allowed. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- be familiar with the basic principles of the speaking and writing systems of the Chinese language.
- have a good command of about 300 Chinese characters and some basic grammar and sentence structures that are used to express events in the present.
- have a basic understanding of China and its customs and ways of life.
