Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. form a mature and critical understanding of the origins of Buddhism.
  2. analyse and evaluate a range of primary sources relating to early Buddhism and provide a critical assessment of scholarly discussion of this topic.
  3. develop skills in critically assessing the history and culture of early Buddhism which they can transfer to the study of other religions and areas of cultural history.
  4. communicate their awareness of early Buddhism as a unique human endeavour which at the same time overlaps with other religions and cultures.
  5. develop skills based on their independent writing projects and attain levels of articulacy and coherence in class discussion appropriate to the level of study.
