Summary | This course will provide students with an advanced understanding of the importance of visualisation techniques within anatomy education, giving students an overview of the history of the relationship between art and anatomy, and the advances from two-dimensional illustrations to three-dimensional virtual reality.

Course description |
This course will provide students with an excellent understanding of the use of visualisation techniques in relation to anatomy education. A range of topics focusing on the utilisation of visualisation as a teaching method will include the history of anatomical visualisation, advances in technology including the use of MRI and CT scans, the development of virtual reality, and how these developments aid or hinder anatomy education.
This course is designed to give students an understanding and overview of visualisation techniques in anatomy education.
The course will be divided into several areas, starting with the history of anatomical visualisation, the development of visualisation techniques during the enlightenment, the advances of technology and the application of virtual and augmented reality.
The aim of this course is to provide students with an advanced understanding of the use of visualisation techniques used to aid anatomy education for students, medical professionals and the general public.
Students will be encouraged to use online discussion boards to communicate, discuss and critically analyse different visualisation techniques.

As the assessment for this course is 100% coursework, students will be provided with details of their assessment at the beginning of the course in week 1. Therefore, students will have the opportunity for informal feedback through the use of the discussion board from tutors on their ideas and questions on their presentation, but may also ask for feedback from their peers via the discussion board.
Students will also be given feedback on their end of module test after grading of all tests is completed. |
