SummaryThe course consists of a research project in an area of contemporary chemical physics research. The aim is to acquire the necessary skills to perform chemical or physical research in a professional academic research environment. The research project forms part of the Honours curriculum for students on the MChemPhys degree programmes in Chemical Physics with a Year in Industry and Chemical Physics with a Year Abroad.
Course description The research project is carried out in the research group of a member of the academic staff in the School of Chemistry or School of Physics and Astronomy. The initial direction of the research project is defined in preliminary meetings with the academic supervisor.

During the research project the student is required to review the background of the area, and to carry out appropriate experimental or theoretical work. The supervisor and senior researchers from the research group will give guidance and feedback at several stages throughout the duration of the project. Towards the end of the project the student will present and their research to a small audience, and also write a short project report.
