SummaryThe course offers an overview and critical understanding of common quantitative research designs, techniques and analysis used within business research.
Course description The course aims to help develop an understanding of the core quantitative techniques used in Business Research for scholarly purposes.

A particular emphasis is placed on designing quantitative research projects so that they are academically rigorous to allow 1) for successful completion of a research degree and 2) for work to be submitted for publication in leading journals. The core will introduce core concepts and techniques before familiarising students with core software for analysis and introducing further advanced software methods to be considered.

Students will be provided with the theoretical concepts, tools and methods of statistics as well as the opportunity to work through example problems.

Course Outline:
1. Quantitative research design for Business (Survey, Experiment, Data-set)
2. Distributions and hypothesis testing
3. Parametric vs. Non-parametric testing
4. Correlation and Simple Linear Regression
5. Factor and Cluster Analysis
6. Logistic regression
7. ANOVA family
8. Mediation and moderation
9. Structural equation modelling
10. Overview of advanced analysis technique (e.g. Baysian)

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Describe and discuss the key terminology, concepts tools and techniques used in quantitative research by business scholars.
  2. Critically evaluate the underlying assumptions of analysis procedures.
  3. Understand and critically discuss the issues surrounding sampling and significance.
  4. Discuss critically the uses and limitations of statistical analysis.
  5. Solve a range of problems using the techniques covered.
