Summary | Pluripotency and the Germline will explore the molecular basis of pluripotency; how pluripotency is used in the body, how this property can be exploited to culture stem cells indefinitely, and how it can be reinstated during reprogramming. It will follow the development of early germline stem cells to form the adult germline, and look in depth at spermatogenesis and oogenesis. |
Course description |
Pluripotency and the germline aims to give students an up to date exposure to recent developments in understanding of the immortal cycle between pluripotent cells and the germline. There will be a specific focus on the molecular and cellular controls on various forms of pluripotency and how cells transition out of pluripotency, particularly how cells enter the germline and subsequent germ cell development
