Course description |
This course introduces students to some of the key social issues facing contemporary society and the response of design and visual communication practices. Themes covered by the course include: disability, cultural difference, gender and ageing. The course is designed to enable students to think about design and visual culture in a critically engaged way. In this course students will also be encouraged to approach their own design practices in a reflexive manner.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- RESEARCH: Use a variety of appropriate research approaches to show an understanding of visual images, artefacts, built environments and texts.
- ANALYSE: Demonstrate detailed knowledge of and critically engage with the main theories of cultural production
- COMMUNICATE: Show initiative in managing and communicating your work through appropriate responses.
