SummaryStudents explore different aspects of filmmaking and cinematic language. Students film and edit different briefs and short video assignment to develop their knowledge of film conventions.
Course description Students conduct independent research into aspects of film production and film form and respond to different briefs and assignments which include among others, making short videos, taking pictures and analysing short films. The different assignments are presented in a course portfolio.

Prohibited Combinations Other requirements This course is only available to students on the Film and Television Degree Programme in the School of Design.
Additional Costs Students can expect to make travel costs and costs related to filming such as buying USB sticks and Compact Flash Cards. Total costs should not exceed £ 30.00.

Feedback Students receive written formative feedback to submitted work at mid semester (week 6). Written feedback is given to summative hand-in.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Analyse and evaluate the creative and technical choices involved in filmmaking based on independent research.
  2. Respond to creative challenges involved in the practice of film making.
  3. Communicate ideas effectively to a variety of audiences.
