Summary | Acting as senior designers, students undertaking this course work with peers across different year groups in Graphic Design, working collectively towards a common objective regardless of experience. Each student has the opportunity to apply to an established in-house student design agency within the Graphic Design programme. Each of the agencies, mentored by industry professionals, will respond to briefs and self-initiated commercial projects. Students will be expected to take on increasing responsibility within their team. The student agencies experience work-like scenarios within the safety of the academic environment, developing rounded, professionally-rooted skill sets, such as design thinking, risk-taking, selling, presenting, delegating and networking. |
Course description |
This course allows students to engage with the various roles and responsibilities within the world of graphic design agencies. Through practical projects and collaboration with peers in both junior and senior years, students will form a personal vision for their place within the creative sector. Each student communicates, acts upon and tests decisions towards formation of their own professional practice and career trajectories.
Students showcase skills of information gathering, reflection and documentation, whilst discovering that innovation can occur through collaborations, connections and relationships with others. There will be opportunities to explore the range of roles and responsibilities of the professional setting of their discipline, learning new methods and boundaries of working - relevant to whatever field they subsequently choose. The student will be made aware of their own employability, capabilities and attributes.
Throughout the course there will be weekly analysis of key events and discoveries recorded through a visual journal and an opportunity to present these findings at formative and summative review. Peer group reviews take place throughout the duration of the course. This ensures there is a continuous and evolving process of internalized reflection that can be regularly tested by the student within their peer group.

Reflective Journal

Submit a pdf poster which communicates your long-term career strategy. It's expected the content for the poster will be gleaned, in part, from the reflective journal.¿
The Learning Outcomes are equally weighted at 33.3% each.
LO 1 and 2 for the Journal and LO 3 for the Poster.
Formative Assessment:
Reflective Journal
Submit work in progress through the reflective journal which records your day to day experience and understanding of design agency.¿
Poster Prototype
A work in progress visual of your initial poster idea for dissemination to an audience of tutors and peers. |
