| Summary | This course will challenge the students to develop a project brief within a complex and/or multi-functional space/site or series of spaces. Throughout the design process students will be required to rigorously test out proposals and reflect critically on their decision making process. |
| Course description |
The course will focus on an existing/historic site and students will be required to carry out detailed research and analysis into past and present use to provide a clear rationale in consideration of a suitable the new function
Research will include contextual site analysis to include site data and drawings; alongside rigorous exploration of the relevant sector.
Students will practice autonomy, defining their own precise brief, to determine an appropriate function rationale for the interior and its users.
Students will learn how to demonstrate competence in large-scale planning, spatial layout, and (vertical) circulation, making connections in and between spaces.
They will deliver a comprehensive package of work, to include concept sketches and exploratory models as evidence of their design process. Final proposals will include a detailed set of technical drawings and computer generated 3D visuals, with a strong focus on section and three-dimensional spatial understanding.

Formative feedback and Assessment:
Group tutorials will include verbal and/or written feedback from peers and staff on a weekly basis. Mid-semester, students will submit a self-evaluation form, and be given written formative feedback on their formative submission and work to date.
Summative Feedback and Assessment:
At the end of the course students will submit a final edited portfolio of work and a self-evaluation form, and be given written feedback and grades on their work submitted. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Evaluate and respond to a body of research, drawing on a wide range of sources to formulate appropriate design responses.
- Demonstrate a critical awareness of three-dimensional design, through structured and transparent processes and methodologies, which begin to position your own practice.
- Realise Interior Design project solutions in drawn and model form, using a range of techniques and advanced skills.
